5 Moments That Define a Man

Posted on 21 July 2008 by admin

Being a kid is a blast. Unfortunately, we grow up, and things change. Our actions in everyday situations become more difficult, and ultimately define our character. For my male readers, how will you handle these 5 moments that define a man?

#1 - Choosing to Marry

This moment comes long before you pop the question. Ask yourself not whether you’ll still want to sleep with her in 20 years (you will), but how you’ll react when you discover what foul brand of sugar and spice she’s truly made of. A promising answer: “We’re still a pretty good team.”

#2 - Becoming a Father

There are tons of fatherhood variables, but we do know one simple truth: The only times you’ll suck at being a dad are the moments you refuse to put your kids’ needs first. If you’re ready to prioritize them consistently, you’ll cruise. Continue Reading

The Five Best Firebug Extensions - Webmonkey

From webmonkey:

The popular Firefox web development extension Firebug does some pretty cool stuff out of the box: debug JavaScript, tweak the CSS, and see all the network traffic.

Firebug extensions are a sort of meta-extension that lets you add on to Firebug. Developers are adding some features that we’re starting to find hard to live without.

Here we’ll lay out our five faves.

5 sights the U.S. government won’t let Google show you

Posted on 18 July 2008 by admin

From Valleywag:

So much for indexing all the world’s information: There are at least 51 places you can’t see on Google Maps. One of them is the entire country of Bahrain. Allegedly, the Bahrain’s Ministry of Information blocked Google Maps from its citizens because it didn’t want the local poors to see the private jets and residences of the Gulf statelet’s riches. This got us wondering what sights our government has blocked citizens from viewing. We list five, below.

3 New Features Released For Google Docs

Posted on 16 July 2008 by admin

I guess technically it’s really only one feature, but for three separate things. As far as I can tell, Google just released Templates to their Google Docs suite, which is a great, and long-overdue, addition. I’ve only spent a few minutes looking through them, but there’s a decent selection, and all appear to be good quality. Here’s what they have:

Presentation Templates

Google Docs Templates

I still haven’t used the Presentations in Docs, but there are 77 pages of templates (starting to wonder if this is really new, or if I’m just now noticing them).

Spreadsheet Templates

Google Docs Templates

There are 115 pages of spreadsheet templates, ranging from service invoices, to event management sheets.

Document Templates

Google Docs Templates

Document templates round out the new templates feature with 117 pages ranging from resumes to business cards.

If you’re a Google Docs fan, fire it up and have some fun. It’s a nice feature that took too long to get here (unless, like I said before, it’s been here all along, and I’m just noticing).

13 iPhone Apps That Should be in the App Store - But Probably Never Will

Posted on 16 July 2008 by admin

I’ll just come out and say it - I’m not too happy with my decision to upgrade my iPhone to 2.0. I was having a great time living with my jailbroken 1.1.4, but my desire to be an early adopter forced me into upgrading, and now I’m stuck with it - although spending some time at TUAW today made me feel a little better.

Now don’t get me wrong, having the choice between 20 different tip calcs is great, and an app designed to see how long I can press a button will surely help me forget how great (and stable) 1.1.4 was. But I’ve been thinking a lot about what I’d like to see on my iPhone, and here’s my list - complete with bad ’shopped jobs.

#1 Loco Roco

So stupid, yet Loco Roco was my favorite PSP game. It’s a relaxing game that would involve tilting the iPhone to the left and right to move your blob through the stage, and occasionally jilt the iPhone for a jump. I haven’t seen this on anyone’s radar, but it seems like a perfect port.

#2 - iZelda

Like this will ever happen. But, the Legend of Zelda Phantom Hourglass for the DS used the styles for everything, and being able to boot the styles for my finger would be heaven. Continue Reading

Top 10 Alternate Casting Calls In Batman

Posted on 15 July 2008 by admin

From Movie Moron:

In honor of The Dark Knight opening this week, it is a time to look back at some of the characters in the Batman films and wonder, just what if these casting calls were different. Please keep in mind that these casting choices are purely fantasy and are not indicative of any actual possibilities. The movie studios just lack the awesome to see the great potential certain actors have for these roles.

The 10 Neatest Things on Neatorama - According to Me

Posted on 15 July 2008 by admin

If you’re not a reader of Neatorama, you need to be. Being the first blog I ever subscribed to, Neatorama has a special place in my heart, and serves as a constant source of (albeit strange) inspiration. Below are 12 of my favorite posts from the blog, and hopefully, if you’re not already, they’ll help you become as big a fan of the site as I am.

#1 - Vote for John McClane!

I’m not a huge Bruce Willis fan, and I’m not a huge Die Hard Sequels fan, but my name is Shaun McLane, so everytime a new Die Hard movie comes out, I get an extra cool point. Funny post none-the-less.

#2 - Six Houses Guaranteed to Make Yours Look Puny

I’m a real estate broker by day, so anything to do with houses usually gets my attention. The houses listed here are amazing!

#3 - Pulling Down a Palm Tree

This one’s a video, and I’ll leave it to you to go check it out - it’s so worth your time. You’ll probably know the outcome the second the video starts, but I promise you’ll watch the whole thing. Continue Reading
