Well, it’s Halloween, so I’m feeling obligated to write a list about something Halloweeny. I received a tweet this morning showing hanging coffins, and thought they might fit well into a list of bizarre coffins.I have no idea if this list will interest anyone, but I was surprisingly intrigued (and shocked) as I did my research. Hope you enjoy!

Gizmodo has a small gallery of crazy coffins, and this one caught my attention. I guess this egg would look nice next to your wicker couch.

Nope, this isn’t a joke. And I guess it’s not really about the coffin on this one as it is about the fact that there’s a 2008 version of a coffin calendar. Head over to Underground Humor for all the details.

Ummm….WTF? I’m at a loss of words, but Design Spotter had this to say about this coffin, “The work of cajo-design starts where other designers give up. Designing beautiful coffins is an exciting but not easy task. Particularly in Germany innovation in the dying culture is blocked by the funeral parlour. Fortunately the open minded manufacturer of coffins Diefenbach and the Designer Carmen J. Breuker started their sensational cooperation.”

Oh, for the love of all things Canadian….like Pabst Blue Ribbon. An Illinois man named Bill Bramanti designed this coffin to look like a beer can….bet you can’t guess what his favorite beer is. Thanks to bornrich.org for this gem.

Welcome to the wonderful world of Ecopods – a revolutionary design in coffins made from naturally hardened, 100% recycled paper. According to the site, they are made from 100% ecologically sound materials and are the ideal products for a non toxic burial or cremation. Perfect for use in greenfield sites.

Oddly enough, I found this coffin on 30minutemeals.com. Not sure I’d be bookmarking too many recipes from the site, but they do have a long list of coffins for Going out with a Bang.

I swear I saw this at my local Ikea store. There’s something very sick and twisted about building your own coffin.

Creative Coffins offers a great selection of WTF coffins. Each one is made from 60% recycled paper plus wood pulp sourced from sustainable forests, contains only natural starch-based glues (no screws, bolts, tape, or other fittings), handles made from natural woven cotton, and is completely non-toxic. Better yet, you can have them custom designed — or choose from any number of beautiful designs already on the site.

If you aren’t a fan of Listverse, you should be, and here’s a great example why. This is one of their Top 10 Bizarre Coffins, and it fits nice and snug in our list. There’s not much info on this one, but isn’t it just fun to look at?

Coffins For Geeks is a hysterical post with the geekiest coffins you could image. After you’re done wondering if there’s also a 3G version of the above coffin available, head over to MakeUseOf, and check out the rest.

I have no idea how common these are, but they look very similar to the Tupperware stuff you see at Wal-Mart for your Christmas decorations. Whatever the case, Alternative News Sources posted this picture, explaining that the government ordered half a million of these. Follow the link for the rest of the story. I just liked the looks of the coffin.

This is what you’ve been waiting to see. These are the hanging coffins I mentioned at the beginning of the post. They are in Sagada in Philippines, and I saw them on this site. I added a video from their site below.
