I was going through some old bookmarks today, and came across Improv Everywhere. I had forgotten who they were, and why I bookmarked them, but seconds later I was watching everyone in Grand Central Station freeze instantaneously, and remembered that I had watched that video nearly twenty times.
I started digging through other posts on the site and realized they’ve done much more than just make time stand still. It inspired me to see what other flash mob videos I could find, and the results were amazing. This Flash Mob thing is really catching on, and I found myself drawn to everyone of them, watching from the first second to the last. Here are the 24 videos you need to see.
As our digital and physical lives blur further, the internet has become the information hub where people spend a majority of their time learning, playing and communicating with others globally.
Sometimes it is easy to lose sight of just how staggering the numbers are of people collaborating, researching, and interacting on the web.
I thought it might be fun to take a step back and look at some interesting/amazing social media, Web 2.0, crowdsourcing and internet statistics. I tried to find stats that are the most up-to-date as possible at the time of publishing this post.
The numbers presented below should be a close representation of today’s numbers (please correct me in the comments if you find more recent numbers somewhere and I’ll update).
Let’s break them down by section:
Listropolis’ Take:
I’m a number junkie, and a social media junkie, so this is almost like geek porn for me. It’s not going to help you live any better, but it’s an awesome list showing you the power of social media.
The “Jaw-Dropping” in the title might seem a bit dramatic, but it’s not. Following are 18 of the most amazing Christmas light shows I’ve ever seen. If you’re a fan of driving around looking at Christmas lights, you’ll want to grab a cup of cocoa, and throw on a blanket while you watch - although a few of them (I’m talking to you techno houses) might make you sick. These displays put my Charlie Brown-esque tree and one strand of lights to shame.
Seinfeld as you guys probably know by now, was/is my favorite show on television. And in addition to the many quirks and observations the show has been responsible for, I also think that it’s responsible for being the catalyst to many acting careers.
Some of these actually surprised me, but there are 12 actors that stand out whose careers really seemed to blossom after appearing on the show. For the record, before we even start, I’m knocking off Brad Garrett, Teri Hatcher, Kristen Davis, and Marcia Cross. Garrett was big in the 80’s with stand up. Hatcher had already been in Tango and Cash, and Davis and Cross were already on Melrose place.
These actors? You’d be hard pressed to know who they were before making their presence known on Seinfeld
No matter how much you love swimming there are some creatures you do not want to run into. Most of them are harmless but you might have a heart attack due to the ugliness overdose, so get used to them now so you’re not surprised if you bump into one.
I can’t even begin to explain these sites. They are a little trippy, loaded with Flash, and a whole lot WTF. I feel these sites are hanging out on the outer-most sections of the internet universe, and I’ve done my best to pull them all together for you. You may never look at websites the same again.
I’m still trying to figure this one out. I guess it’s a game. I have only been able to do four moves before it starts me over. Very odd, but a little fun.
Many writers seek extreme experiences, including getting drunk / high / ecstatic / wasted / buzzed. And while we’re not exactly advocating altered states here, it did seem to take the edge off their writer’s block.
So, who says drugs and alcohol aren’t useful? For one thing, they’re responsible for some of the world’s greatest literature. Here are 5 classics written under the influence.
EDITORS’ DISCLAIMER: Cracked does not endorse eating the below foodstuffs for the express purpose of getting high, as the side effects are usually horrible enough to make you forget you were high in the first place.
