Most have heard the saying that no one takes care of a rental car like they take care of their own. Why not floor the gas pedal or track sand into the car – the reasoning goes – if you’ll never see it again after this week? In many ways, this is a perfect analogy to government waste. No matter which party is in power, spending other people’s money rarely compels one to be as prudent as if they were spending their own. Combine this with the typical politician’s time horizon (the next election) and it’s easy to see why so many government projects and initiatives have been swallowed by waste over the years. Here are 12 of the most outrageous examples.

Not at all what I expected. This list is filled with items that I’ve never really thought about, but now I’m a little outraged.

Ah, politicians. Idealistic men and women who want to make the world a better place, or corrupt men and women who are self-serving and egomaniacal. Whatever your view on politics, there is one aspect of the lives of politicians that takes up more column inches than even the worst of political gaffes. Even as America tears itself to pieces over the health-care debate, while the UK parliament reels from the MP expenses scandal, you can be sure that a good old-fashioned sex scandal would overshadow all these issues.
Newspapers gleefully expose every detail of a sordid affair slowly, gleefully smearing as many reputations into ruin as possible. Political sex scandals are about much more than just people getting caught with their pants down. To many, they suggest that these people cannot be trusted. If they lie about having an affair, if they break marriage vows, then how can they be trusted on other issues? In some cases, these scandals are so damaging, they can destroy careers, or even bring down governments. Here are 10 of the most shocking and salacious political sex scandals in history.

There are probably hundreds of ways to watch tonight’s election results, but I’ve pulled together this list of sites that will have live coverage, or interactive widgets to view the results. This list is obviously not complete, but it should give our readers a great place to start.

I’ve got to admit, I’m not a huge Yahoo fan, but they’ve done a nice job with this site. The site features live news updates, and an interactive map with results.

Using Twitter Vote Report, voters will be able to share their experiences and resources with one another (e.g. “#wait:120″ meaning that the wait time is 120 minutes). These messages will then be aggregated and mapped so that we can “see” voting problems around the country in real-time. There doesn’t appear to be anything about election results, but it’s Twitter, so I’m sure you’ll get a good idea. I can see this being fun to watch along with one of the other sites listed.

Who the Hell is Sarah Palin? I’m sure I wasn’t the only one asking that with the word that she was chosen as John McCain’s running mate. I decided to Digg around a little and find the best stories about our new soccer mom pal, Sarah Palin. If you don’t know much about her, you will after reading this list. So grab a sack of mooseburgers, throw out your birth control, and relax as we spend more time learning about her than John McCain ever did. These stories were all pulled from Digg, and are the stories with more than 3000 Diggs.
#1.
Noonan and Murphy on Palin
How about we start with a video. This isn’t as much about Palin as it is about hilarious. This is two conservative commentators on MSNBC, after they’re off the air, saying what they really think about the veep choice. Pure gold!
#2.
Bristol Palin Pregnant — RIGHT NOW

MSNBC – Bristol Palin, one of Alaska Gov. Palin’s five children with her husband, Todd, is about five months pregnant and is going to keep the child and marry the father, the Palins said in a statement released by the campaign of Republican presidential candidate John McCain. AP: Attacks, Praise Stretch Truth At GOP Convention
Huffington Post – Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin and her Republican supporters held back little Wednesday as they issued dismissive attacks on Barack Obama and flattering praise on her credentials to be vice president. In some cases, the reproach and the praise stretched the truth. Read the rest of the story…

It was just announced that Sarah Palin is John McCain’s choice for Vice President. It’s an interesting choice, and USNews has a great list of ten thing you didn’t know about Sarah Palin. Take a trip their site and have a look.

From 7PProductions:
Dear Senator McCain and Senator Obama:
You are running for a position that we lost faith in. According to a recent poll, President Bush’s approval ratings were at 23%, breaking records for the worst ever. President Clinton got himself impeached before leaving office as well. Prior to that, President George H. W. Bush’s approval ratings were at 37% on the eve of the 1992 election day.
One of you will be the 44th US President. For the winner, remember this… be the great leader that is needed. Earn our support. Get back to first principles. You only need to look to the first President as a model for being a great leader.

From the Site:
For those of you who think Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama can sling some mud, check out these brawls. The top political melees, spanning history and the globe, make John Kerry’s Swift Boat seem like the Love Boat, and the smear campaign about John McCain’s black love child (um, he doesn’t really have one) seem like a silly game of telephone.
Here are my favorite political brawls of all time:
