I’ve made the decision to start featuring interesting people I meet online, and I guess there’s no better day than today. Robert Scoble is a self-proclaimed Tech geek blogger, and he’s probably the biggest celebrity blogger around. I’m not going to spend a lot of time talking about him when you could just read about him elsewhere, read his blog, or follow him on Twitter.

The reason I feel the need to bring Scoble up today is an interesting list he started on Friendfeed. I “borrowed” the title of his list for the title of this post – hope you don’t mind Robert.

Here’s what’s going on. Robert is building a list in the comments section, and other readers are adding their own tips. It’s a great idea, fantastic topic, and the list has become a nice resource…..so I’ve added it to Listropolis (where ALL great lists belong), all nice and tidy.

1. Start a list of something outrageous. Tell some friends who seem to get lots of conversations going about it. Just tweet them with their twitter address like this: @scobleizer in the post.
2. Comment on other people’s threads first. Say smart stuff. Be funny, cute, interesting, etc. Or, throw the “bacon bomb” into the comments. Don’t know what the Bacon Bomb is? Ask Mona on friendfeed.
3. Follow people who seem to always get conversations going. This is very important on friendfeed because you’ll get a sense of what works for them. And, you’ll be the first to see the big conversations before anyone else. First post in friendfeed always is seen more.
4. Look at http://search.twitter.com and see what is trending. Comment about that.
5. Look at “Best of Day” on friendfeed and ignore it.
6. If you are talking about stuff on Techmeme you are too late. That news is always an hour late. Instead, use http://www.techfuga.com and get into the conversations that are happening now.
7. Rif on something smart that one of the smart people say. Dave Winer, Tim O’Reilly, Steve Gillmor, etc.
8. Post a picture of bacon. But you’ve gotta put something unusual into it. A picture of Mike Arrington, for instance.
9. Teach people how to do something new.
10. Complaining that no one is paying attention to you on twitter or friendfeed might work. Once or twice. But then we remember that’s all you do and that you aren’t bringing any value. So, long term this will hurt you. Plus, there’s always someone who is begging who has a better beg.
11. Click “Like” on 100 new things that caught your eye. We do see that and we do notice that you’re adding important meta data to the system. Even if we don’t notice you’ll have 100 new friendfeed items to comment on now. Just visit the “me” tab and then click on “Likes” over on the right side and you’ll see them all.
12. Have sex with someone who always has lots of comments. Have Duncan Riley post pictures!
13. Get laid off. But have a great story. Even better? Start a room on friendfeed for people to talk with you about your future.
14. Get someone who gets lots of comments to “Like” your item. This takes getting to know a few people and what they like. It also might mean giving them a phone call, sending them email, chatting with them on Facebook, or generally stalking them. Social media is great for stalking. I know everything that Guy Kawasaki and Tim O’Reilly are thinking due to social media. Hint, we’re all egotistical baaahhhssstttaaarrrddddssss and we all look at our replies in Twitter. Just include @scobleizer in your tweet!!!
15. Say something outrageous like “Palm Pre kills the iPhone.” Oh, wait, that’s not outrageous, it’s just a fact that hasn’t been widely understood yet. Heheh. Seriously, take on Apple and you are almost guaranteed a conversation. You just gotta be prepared for the backlash.
16. Post great pictures and funny little items like Mona.
17. Baby photos. Louis Gray. Enough said.
18. Tell a retweetable story. Chris Brogan has this down. Study what he is doing and do it better.
19. Hang out with people who get lots of conversations going. Go to lots of events where friendfeeders and twitterers hang out. Here’s a list: http://upcoming.yahoo.com/user/138148/
20. Talk about Daft Punk and why they are or aren’t the downfall of the next generation.

I’m a huge fan of FriendFeed. Recently, FriendFeed introduced Rooms, allowing people to discuss very specific topics of interest. I thought it was worth listing 3 of these rooms that might have a little action come Monday during Apple’s WWDC where we might see the release of the iPhone 2 (or iPhone 3G if you prefer).

If you aren’t already a FriendFeed member, why not join? It takes seconds to setup, and is a great way to pull your social madness into one place.

If you use FriendFeed, your wait for a desktop client is finally over. If you also use Twitter, you’re going to love Alert Thingy! Alert Thingy runs on the Adobe Air platform, and I just installed it, and already, it’s become my favorite desktop client.

It’s a piece of cake to install, and it’s beautiful. You can “Comment” and “Like” right from the app, and as of today, you can also tweet. It doesn’t get much better than this.

So, can a list really be only one item long? Probably not, but alert thingy is too cool not to share. Download and enjoy.

I’m addicted to Friendfeed!

I’ve been using Friendfeed for just over a month now, and it’s grown on me so much, that it’s become my homepage (take that iGoogle). Friendfeed is definitely this year’s Twitter in terms of buzz, but unlike the one-trick-pony that is twitter (don’t get me wrong, I’m addicted to that too), Friendfeed seems to have some major legs.

To me, one of the best tools in Friendfeed is the “recommended” friends list. I’ll admit, I had never heard of Robert Scoble until Friendfeed insisted we meet each other. Now, I find myself drowning in social info overload catching up on Scoble, and my other very active friends.

It seems like there is at least one article written daily about Friendfeed, and most of them are very interesting, so I wanted to bring all of the buzz, articles, tools, and everything else into one list – the Ultimate Friendfeed List. I’m positive I’ll miss a few items, but I’ve spent two days scouring the web for things related to friendfeed, so I feel comfortable that this list is the best around – at least until tomorrow.
