YouTube has come to define the era of online video, so let’s take a look at their most popular videos of all time. We first did this list in August 2007, at which point Evolution of Dance by comedian Judson Laipply was number 1 with nearly 56 million views. The next update was September 2008, when Avril Lavigne’s Girlfriend pop music video was number 1 with 103 million page views (although commenters argued it may have gamed the system).
How is Evolution of Dance doing now, given the influx of pop music and movie videos into YouTube? Not to mention all of those goofy comedic routines by teenagers and cutesy baby or animal videos. Let’s check out the top YouTube videos of all time, as it stands today…
Listropolis’ Take:
Look…there’s a reason these videos have such high view counts. They’re great! And to be able to see them all on one post makes them all that much better. Sure, you’ve probably already seen most of them, but check out the list and see if there were any you missed.
For extreme sports athletes, putting on a helmet-cam is usually a death wish. But a tip of the hat goes out to those people who have the cojones to strap a camera to their heads and document their flirtations with death just so the rest of us can live, vicariously, on the edge. The truth is that helmet cam video footage is the closest a lot of us will ever get to base-jumping, attempting a motorcycle wheelie, or getting stuck in an avalanche. So now it’s your turn. Strap on a helmet, roll the GoPro, and watch 8 death-defying helmet cam videos.
Listropolis’ Take:
What a cool post to start the morning. We’re all thrill junkies here, so watching these videos got out blood pumping a bit this morning. I’ve seen #3 before, and it’s still one of my favs.
Whether or not Twitter has hit a traffic growth ceiling, the 140 character status update platform has already proved it can permeate past its early adopter audience and attract a more mainstream user-base complete with Twittering athletes, celebrities, and government officials.
Along the way, Twitter (Twitter) has also managed to grab a lot of attention as the easy scapegoat in parody videos. We’ve seen comedic geniuses, late-night talk show hosts, and many video production companies all try to best each other in a battle for the funniest Twitter spoof or satire. Not all are created equal, but the 10 we’ve included here are some of the sure-fire standouts.
Twitter may be the butt of everyone’s joke, but after the news of a $1 billion valuation, we have a sneaking suspicion that Twitter will eventually have the last laugh.
Listropolis’ Take:
Any list with Twouble With Twitters in it is a great list. If you’re a Twitter fan, you’ll really appreciate the humor in these vids.
You don’t know @nik_nik? What the Hell is wrong with you? Here’s the deal with Nicole Nicolay (@nik_nik). She’s the tech goddess at MyTechOpinion, the co-bitch goddess at Sacrilicious Marketing, and an all-around cool chick. Don’t believe me? Check out her videos below, and you’ll be racing to follow her on Twitter. See, here’s something I forgot to mention. NikNik also LOVES being in front of her webcam. Is it your birthday? You might find a birthday video just for you (I’m still waiting on mine!). Follow her on Twitter? Get a kick-ass video telling who she is. Just watch the videos, and you’ll understand.
#1.
Twitter Welcome (Cult of Personality)
Seriously! Does it get any cooler than this? Follow @Nik_Nik on twitter, and chances are, you’ll get a nice reply with a link to this video. Actually, this video is the inspiration behind this post. I have two twitter accounts: one for myself, and one for Listropolis. The listropolis account is new, so I just got around to following her tonight, and within seconds, I had a personal reply with a link to this video. Love it!
The “Jaw-Dropping” in the title might seem a bit dramatic, but it’s not. Following are 18 of the most amazing Christmas light shows I’ve ever seen. If you’re a fan of driving around looking at Christmas lights, you’ll want to grab a cup of cocoa, and throw on a blanket while you watch – although a few of them (I’m talking to you techno houses) might make you sick. These displays put my Charlie Brown-esque tree and one strand of lights to shame.
YouTube has come to define the new era of online video, so let’s take a look at their most popular videos of all time.
I was expecting something like lonelygirl15 or the original menthos coke video to be number 1. But no, the most popular video of all time on YouTube, so far, has been Evolution of Dance by comedian Judson Laipply. It was added to YouTube on April 06, 2006 and has since gone on to attract 55.8 Million views. It’s had 60,476 comments, the first of which was: “That was freaking AWESOME! Thanks for sharing!!”. The comments for this video are still going strong today – the latest 10 comments have all come in the last 30 minutes, as of writing. Plus it’s been favorited 252,082 times (making it the number 1 Top Favorited video of All Time).
According to a SMH article at the end of 2006, Laipply is a comedian and motivational speaker from Cleveland, Ohio. The video shows him dancing a six-minute routine encompassing 32 songs spanning more than 50 years of music and dance. In many ways this is your typical YouTube video – a funny, goofy, short and clever video, in this case uploaded by and starring a professional comedian. But there are tens of thousands of similar videos on YouTube, uploaded by enthusiastic amateurs (mostly teens).
Incidentally, on Laipply’s website there is an accompanying cat video – proving once and for all that this success story was by and for the Web.
The next 3 most viewed YouTube videos are all music. Two of them professional, one amatuer.

The dawn of film-yourself filmmaking, as Turner and friends maroon themselves near Indonesian perfection and slowly go mental.
Highlight: Killing the goat, and the epic score at “The Right.”
The yang Momentum’s yin. It was raw, it was crude, but WRGO – along with its increasingly scandalous sequel – became the inspiration for everything from Jackass to reality TV to airshows. It also launched the careers of icons Chris Ward and Cory Lopez.
Highlight: Fourteen-year-old Chris Ward looking like a young Curren. The formal introduction of Randall.
Apocalypse Now director Milius manages Hollywood’s sole representation in SURFER Magazine’s Top 25 with his loose retelling of surfer Denny Aaberg’s Malibu days.
Highlight: What else? Big Wednesday. Plus, The Masochist flexing.
There is a phenomenon today that almost escapes words. A moment of
joyous rapture when someone is so thoroughly embarrassed that the word
“embarrassing” cannot do it justice. This is a level of embarrassment
or failure so hillarious and so monumental that it becomes immortalized
in the memory of all who bear witness to it. In today’s article, we
rounded up 20 videos containing the most hilariousjay and ingeniously
executed pwnage we could find (in no particular order). Enjoy!
